The plan to increase the capacity of the line m2 to automate the subway and build a 4km line m3 took a step forward on June 13th, when the Vaud State Government asked the state legislature to approve a value of 15.3 billion 7 million Swiss francs to pay for the next phase of work. Conduct a detailed comparison study.

The state said it would soon seek approval from the Federal Transportation Administration for the construction of a new dual-track line between Granancy, Lausanne-Gare and Flon, and the construction of the Line m3 station in Flon. The capacity of line m2 is currently limited by the single track section between Grancy and Lausanne-Gare.

Operators transporting Lausannois has grown rapidly in the past few years, and the new m2 route will double the capacity between Lausanne-Gal and Flon, where the M3 line will be spread to Chauderon, Beaulieu, Casernes, Plaines-du- The site of Loup and the city of Blécherette in the north. Line m2 will run at intervals of less than 2 minutes and will be incremented every 3 minutes on line m3, which will use the same technique.

The subway expansion plan will coincide with the SFr1∙3 billion project to rebuild the main railway station as part of the Léman2030 plan to increase the capacity of the Geneva-Lausanne corridor. Three new pedestrian tunnels will be built to connect the main line platform to the subway. Nuria Gorrite, president of the Ward government and head of the infrastructure department, said that the development plans for the lines m2 and m3 will ensure the smooth operation of the Lausanne station.

The reconstruction cost of line m2 between Grancy and Flon is 22,000 Swiss francs, while the construction of the m3 line will absorb 5,800 square francs. The Line m2 project is expected to be completed in 2025 and the Line m3 will be fully open after one year.

In May 2017, civil engineering, rolling stock and M2 and m3 line signal contracts were awarded.
