UK: Siemens Transportation Group submitted an outline plan application for £200m rolling at the Gurdon Yorkshire Vehicle Factory which will manufacture and commission vehicles for the UK market.
This is the $15 billion contract signed in November last year to provide 94 pairs of Inspiro London trains for the London Underground Piccadilly Line. The first of these was to be produced in Vienna to meet the required delivery schedules for subsequent transfer to Gul.
The 42-hectare Gul 36 site is close to the M62 motorway and has 27 hectares of land suitable for development. The plan includes 80,000 m2 of manufacturing, commissioning and storage space and a side line of the stables, as well as a four-story 5,000 m2 office building.
Siemens said it plans to create as many as 700 jobs, as well as a further 250 in the construction process, in addition to a layer of 700 potential UK supply chains. The first phase of the plant is expected to open from 2023 in 2025 to full operation.
The company's locomotive engineering design and commissioning team in the UK will also be located on-site, using a digital operations center that will collect data along with the onboard system analysis.
“With digitization, we can help train and infrastructure intelligently and reach this milestone, further strengthening our vision to create a sustainable, long-term, technologically advanced facility that is an asset to the UK”, Will · Wilson, Managing Director, Vehicles said Siemens Mobile Ltd., on April 23.
